Please share a memory of June to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
June Patricia Pugh was born to Mary and Tayeb Salah in Cardiff, Wales, UK in 1935. She was raised with her beloved sister Shirley and late brothers Eddie and Reggie during the Depression and the Cardiff Blitz of WWII. At 18 she met USAF SSgt. Luther Pugh and at 19 she set sail, crossing the Atlantic for the United States and his new base in California. Like many career military family’s, life was a moving adventure. June and Luther raised four children, Luther Jr., Eleanora, Laurent, and Anthony in towns and villages from Maine and New Hampshire to Kansas, California and Washington, as well as England, Wales and Italy. It was in Rome, New York they finally settled, after their second assignment to Griffiss AFB. June retired from AAFES after twenty years and made several trips back to her hometown of Cardiff, visiting her brothers and sister, as well as her many nieces and nephews. June also enjoyed reading, playing bingo, gardening and shopping, especially for British goods in Canada. June is survived by her sister Shirley Salah, sister-in-law Toya Hendricks, four children, Luther Jr. (Connie), Eleanora, Laurent (Amy), and Anthony (Julie) and granddaughters Simone and Marlie, and grandson Jasiah. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews, and dear friend Darlene Hertel. A private family service will be held in the spring. Arrangements have been entrusted to Nunn and Harper Funeral Home, Inc., 418 N. George St.
