Frederick D. Martin, 72, of Rome, passed away on Wednesday, November 18, 2020. He was born in Rome on October 1, 1948, a son of the late Arlin and Josephine (Mancuso) Martin. He proudly served his country as a member of the United States Army while stationed in Korea during the Vietnam War era. After being honorably discharged from the Army, Fred worked at the Rome Developmental Center for almost ten years before getting a job at Griffiss Air Force Base. He worked at Griffiss until it closed and was transferred to Fort Drum. Instead of moving to Watertown, he commuted daily so he could be at home as much as possible because his family was so important to him. Fred was a member of several veterans and social clubs including the Rome VFW, Disabled American Veterans, Henry P. Smith Post, Stanwix Veterans and Men’s Club, the Rome Elks Club and Rome Hook and Ladder. He also played in several golf, softball and bowling leagues throughout the years. He is survived by his fiancé, Victoria Angotti; three daughters, Katrina (Jamie) Deeley, Tiffany (Michael) Quinn and Tera Martin; a son, Frederick (Bonnie) Martin; a sister, Arlene Martin; a brother, John (Debra) Martin; six grandchildren, Joshua (Joelle), Katie (Kyle), Dominic, Emelia, Oscar and Rose; the mother of his children, Karen Martin; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by a son, Nicholas Beach; a cousin by blood and brother by choice, James “Jimmy” Martin; longtime pal, Bruce “Moose” Townsend; and his soulmate, Mixer. Fred’s family would like to express their gratitude to his fiancé Vickie for her wonderful care, patience, compassion and unconditional love; the great staff at MVHS Dialysis Center; and Dr. Sullivan and homecare nurse Linda at the Rome VA, who were so good to him through the years.
