Obituary of Ira C. Lyon

Ira C. Lyon, 83, of Rome, passed away peacefully at Betsy Ross Nursing and Rehabilitation Center on Tuesday, November 17, 2020. He was born in Manhattan on December 10, 1936, a son of the late Robert and Doris (Davis) Lyon. On September 22, 1956 he was united in marriage to Phyllis Taylor. Ira served in the Army National Guard and spent over 50 years working at Revere Copper and Brass Co. He was a member of St. Peter’s Church. Surviving besides his loving wife of 64 years, Phyllis, are two daughters, Sharon Smith and Laurie (Greg) Voci; a sister, Suzanne (Mike) Montabano; a brother, David “Toby” Lyon; seven grandchildren, Jacob (Kristin) Smith, Justin Smith, Joshua (Katie) Smith, Kylie (David) Mitchell, Brittany (Kevin) Neiderer, Adam (Kelly) Voci and Kara (Evan) Boone; ten great-grandchildren, Brynn, Brody, Jameson, Jackson, Taylor, Ike, Ruby, Avery Belle, McKenna and Jenna; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a sister, Kathryn Lyon; four brothers, Robert, Bruce, Thomas and Peter; and a son-in-law, Patrick Smith. Ira’s family would like to thank the staffs at Betsy Ross and Terrace at the Woodlands for their wonderful care and compassion. A Mass of Christian burial will be held on Saturday, November 21st at 9:00 a.m. at St. Peter’s Church, 200 N. James St., Rome. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Ira’s memory may be made to the St. Peter’s Church Memorial Fund. Arrangements have been entrusted to Nunn and Harper Funeral Home, Inc., 418 N. George St., Rome.
