Word just arrived here in Western Massachusetts of Frank's passing (via fellow Sentinel alum Dick Moss). I'll echo Joe Silkowski in sharing about how Frank served as a surrogate dad to me when I arrived in Rome fresh out of college in June 1983. Where should I get my car serviced? Where should I shop? Where do I get a haircut? Frank had all the answers and if there was a bargain to be found, he found it. I would sometimes tag along with Frank and Joe to Vernon Downs. it amazed me how Frank -- by then in his early 60s -- could still run stride-for-stride with a horse if it was a winner coming to the wire! Condolence to Margaret and family. We'll keep you in our prayers.

I am so sorry to hear about Frank. He was one of the most wonderful (cousin) as he said we were. He sent me so much information regarding our family genealogy and roots from Italy. He hosted a family reunion so I got to meet relatives, I didn’t know I had. He was great. Sharon and I send our condolences to Margaret and family. We are now living in Indiana. Fran and Sharon Glass

I will always remember how Frank took me under his wing and made me feel welcome when I came to Rome as a young sports writer at the Sentinel in 1981. We had a lasting friendship that continued into his retirement, and i will always look back fondly on our Friday nights at Vernon Downs (we lost more than we won but always had a good time!) Frank, you will be missed, and it was truly an honor to have known you. My wife Leigh and I send our condolences to Margaret and the family.
Joe Silkowski, retired Sentinel sports editor

So sorry to learn of Frank's passing. I always referred to him as 'Uncle Frank', but I believe cousin is more accurate. Our best to Margaret and family.

I was so sad to hear of the passing of my dear Uncle Frank. My sincere condolences to his whole family, especially my Aunt Margaret and my cousins Eileen, Susan and Carolyn. I have many fond memories of my time with Uncle Frank, Christmas time at his house, cookouts on Memorial Day and July 4th, swimming at his community pool, seeing him at Vernon Downs, and especially playing cards with him. I wish I had been able to see him more after I moved to Ohio. May he rest in peace, with love, his nephew, Bill Burton
