Obituary:E. Kevin Amidon, 65, of Sylvan Beach, died on Thursday, March 6, 2008, in University Hospital, Syracuse, following a brief illness. He was born on July 29, 1942, in Rome, the son of Dr. C. Donald and Grace Livingston Amidon, Sr. Kevin was a graduate of Rome Free Academy.
Kevin was the Club Steward at McConnellsville Golf Club. He previously owned and operated Dockside Restaurant in Sylvan Beach and was the purchasing director for Republic Steel in Cleveland, Ohio, for several years.
He was a member of St. Mary of the Lake Mission Church in Verona Beach. Kevin served as the Town Historian of Sylvan Beach and on the Town of Vienna Zoning Board of Appeals.
Kevin was an excellent basketball player and loved all sports. He refereed basketball and umpired baseball in Ohio for several years.
Surviving are a sister and brother-in-law, Mary Faith and Thomas Vickerson, Albany; two brothers and a sister-in-law, Lt. Col. U.S. Army Ret. C. Donald and Helga Amidon, Jr., Bedford, MA, and Dr. Joel P. Amidon and his special friend, Tamara Roberts-Young, Blossvale; a sister-in-law, Doris Amidon, Fremont, OH; and several nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, two special cousins, and special friends, Judge Shirley Herder and Dr. Don Boardman. Kevin was predeceased by a brother, Dr. Robert L. Amidon.
Funeral services will be at the Nunn and Harper Funeral Home, Inc., 418 N. George St., Rome, on Tuesday, March 11, 2008, at 9:45 AM and a Mass of the Christian Burial at 10:30 PM at St. Peter's Roman Catholic Church. Interment will take place in St. Peter's Cemetery. Family and friends are invited and may call on Monday from 4:00 to 7:00 PM at the funeral home. Contributions may be made in Kevin's memory to the charity of your choice.
