Obituary:William K. "Ted" O'Connor, 78, of 115 Kossuth St., Rome, died on Monday, February 25, 2008, at St. Joseph's Hospital, Syracuse, NY. Ted was born on May 27, 1929, in Rome, the son of William D. and Celeste A. Murphy O'Connor. He attended St. Aloysius Academy. On February 4, 2006, Ted was united in marriage with Linda Kirk in the Floyd Methodist Church.
Ted was employed by Laribee Wire for twenty-eight years, retiring in 1991.
Ted proudly served his country as a member of the United States Navy during WWII in the European Theatre. He was a Tin Can Sailor and served on the USS Holder DD819.
He was a life member of the Rome V.F.W. Post #2246 and three-time past commander. For the last seventeen years, he served as the Treasurer. Ted was a devoted and loyal member whom will be greatly missed by all at Post #2246.
Ted was a life member of the Disabled American Veterans and the Stanwix Veteran Men's Club, and was also a member of the American Legion Henry P. Smith Post #24.
Surviving besides his loving wife, Linda; are four daughters and three sons-in-law, Molly and Martin Pritchard, Germantown, MD, Peggy and Frank Farrell, Glendale, AZ, Chris Gouker, Phoenix, AZ, and Jamie and Robert Barnes, Alachua, FL; three sons and a daughter-in-law, Jerry and Gwen O'Connor, Bennington, VT, Tim O'Connor, Essex Junction, VT; and Terry K. O'Connor, Florence; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Maryanne and Fred Perkins, Brownsmill, NJ, and Kathleen and Thomas Burch, Rome; and eleven grandchildren. Ted was predeceased by a brother, James O'Connor, a daughter, Jodi O'Connor, and a son, Patrick O'Connor.
Funeral services will be held at the Nunn and Harper Funeral Home, Inc., 418 N. George St., Rome, on Thursday, February 28, 2008, at 12:30 PM. Interment will take place in St. Peter's Cemetery. Family and friends are invited and may call on Wednesday from 3:00 to 6:00 PM.
