Obituary:Jeanette Serway Ischia, 78, of N. George St., Rome, died July 5, 2007, at her residence. She was born on January 19, 1929, in Mount Clemens, MI, the daughter of Gebran and Zakie Anton Charbeneau, Sr. On September 3, 1949, she married George F. Serway, who passed away in October of 1971. She later married Jay Ischia in November of 1984, who died December of 1999.
Jeanette was employed by Serway Brothers for nearly 40 years. She was a member of St. Paul's Church. She was a former member of the Mohegan Model A Club and the Camden Rotary Club, where she was a recipient of the Paul Harris Award. Jeanette was also actively involved with Nettie's Girls Cancer Survivors Support Group.
Surviving besides her mother, Zakie Anton Charbeneau, are two daughters and one son-in-law, Linda and Barry Bordwell, and Joan Ciulla,; one son and daughter-in-law, Richard and Nicki Serway; three sisters and three brothers-in-law, Lillian and Al Vannini, Diane and Bill MacDonald, Sandy and Joe Kiernicki; one brother and sister-in-law, Gebran and Pat Anton; six grandchildren, Jeff, Leyla, Amina, Zachary, Amy, and Casey. Jeanette is also survived by Megan Panepento, Brandon and Amy Bordwell and their daughter, Brooklynn. She also has cherished in-laws, nieces, nephews, a loving stepfamily, and many friends from the Rome community, where she has lived for nearly 60 years. Jeanette was predeceased by her first granddaughter, Jocelyn.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, July 7, 2007, at the Nunn and Harper Funeral Home, Inc., 418 N. George St., Rome, at 9:00 AM and at St. Paul's Church at 9:45 AM. Interment Rome Cemetery. Friends are invited and may call at the funeral home Friday from 5:00 to 8:00 PM. Memorial contributions may be made in Jeanette's memory to the Hospice and Palliative Care, Inc. or the American Cancer Society.
