Rathbun, 82, of 1 Elsie St., Rome, formerly of Seifert Corners, Rome, died on Thursday, February 7, 2008, at the Betsy Ross Rehabilitation Center following a long illness. She was born on March 2, 1925, in Rome, the daughter of George and Grace Filkins Ernenwein. Leona attended Rome schools. On June 8, 1946, she was united in marriage to Ernest (Stub) Rathbun, Sr. in Rome. He died on October 10, 1978. Leona was employed by Oneida Limited for eighteen years, retiring in 1987. Leona was a former member of Holy Cross Church and its Rosary Society. Surviving are two daughters and a son-in-law, Diane Croad and Bill Shields of Blossvale, and Becky and David Burke of Rome; two sons and daughters-in-law, Ernest and Irene Rathbun of Rome, Richard and Susan Rathbun of Constantia; four sisters and three brothers-in-law, Pauline and Birnie Root, Bridgeport, Tiny and Gene McIntyre, Glen Burnie, MD, Joan Ernenwein, Vernon, and Gail and Bill Proctor, Tucson, AZ; four brothers and two sisters-in-law, George and Joan Ernenwein, Rome, Charlie Ernenwein, Worchester, MA, Tommy and Peggy Ernenwein, NC, and Jimmy Ernenwein, Rome; eleven grandchildren; several great grandchildren; several great-great grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Leona was predeceased by a daughter, Cynthia McCallops. Funeral services will be held at the Nunn and Harper Funeral Home, Inc., 418 N. George St., Rome, on Monday, February 11, 2008, at 9:00 AM and a Mass of the Christian Burial at St. Francis of Assisi Church, Durhamville, at 10:00 AM. Interment will take place in Rathbunville Cemetery in the spring. Family and friends are invited and may call on Sunday from 2:00 to 5:00 PM at the funeral home. Contributions may be made in Leona's memory to the Alzheimer's Association, CNY Chapter, 441 W. Kirkpatrick St., Syracuse, NY, 13204.
