Obituary:Apol A. "Tony" Bunal, 76, of 720 S. George St., Rome, died on Tuesday, February 5, 2008, in Rome Memorial Hospital. He was born on February 9, 1931, in Rome, the son of Stanley and Tekla Jarecki Bunal. He attended Holland Patent Schools. On May 25, 1957, Tony was united in marriage with Irene Philpott in Transfiguration Church in Rome. Mrs. Bunal died on October 11, 2000.
Tony was a machinist for Rome Strip Steel for thirty-three years. He proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict.
Tony was a member of Transfiguration Church, the Ukrainian Club, and the Polish Home.
Surviving are two daughters and a son-in-law, Dorothy and John Sokol, Schenectady, and Pauline Decker, Lee Center; one son and daughter-in-law, Paul and Sandra Bunal, Floyd; two sisters, Julia Kanclerz and Klara Czerski; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Cecil and Ceil Bunal, and Andrew and Janice Bunal, all of Rome; four grandchildren, Albert Decker III, Sarah Decker, Matthew Bunal, and Morgan Bunal; one great-grandson, Gabriel Decker; and numerous nieces and nephews. Tony was predeceased by three sisters, Anna Skubisz, Mary Traxel, and Josephine Bunal; and nine brothers, Carol Felix, Frank, John, Joseph, Leo, Martin, Peter, and Vincent.
Funeral services will be held at the Nunn and Harper Funeral Home, Inc., 418 N. George St., Rome, on Saturday, February 9, 2008, at 9:15 AM and a Mass of the Christian Burial at Transfiguration Church at 10:00 AM. Interment will take place in St. Peter's Cemetery in the spring. Family and friends are invited and may call at the funeral home on Friday from 4:00 to 7:00 PM. Contributions may be made in Tony's memory to the American Lung Association of Central New York, Inc., 506 E. Washington St., Syracuse, NY, 13202, and Transfiguration Church Memorial Fund, 111 Ridge St., Rome, NY 13440.
