Shepard, 83, of Rome, passed away Saturday, January 26, 2008, St. Luke's Hospital with her family by her side. She was born November 26, 1924, in Floyd, the daughter of John and Emma Williams Burk. She was educated in Rome schools. In 1942, she married Arthur Davis in Rome. On July 12, 1964, she married Bruce Shepard in Georgetown, SC. Dorothy worked for over twenty years at Marcy Psychiatric Center, retiring in1987. She previously worked at Rome Memorial Hospital and Oneida County Hospital. Dorothy was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church. She was a member of the Fire Police of the Stanwix Heights Volunteer Fire Department. She was also a member of the South Rome Senior Citizens and was a former member of the Rebekah Lodge Dorothy is survived by four daughters and sons-in-law, Patricia and Richard Wood, Vernon Center, Sharron Betz, Whitesboro, Nancy and John Volpe, Rome, and Pamela Lyman, Camden; a son and daughter-in-law, John and Sheila Davis, Whitesboro; twenty-two grandchildren, twenty-four great-grandchildren, and five great-great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews, and a special cousin, Lillian Rundle. She was predeceased by Arthur Davis and Bruce Shepard, two sons, Christopher and Ronald Davis, and a sister, Beverly Melnick. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, January 30, 2008 at 2pm at the Nunn and Harper Funeral Home, Inc., 418 N. George St., Rome. Interment will take place in Rome Cemetery.
