Obituary:Wesley H. (Wes) Deming, 92, of 104 S. Levitt Street, Rome, died Monday, January 14, 2008, in Rome Memorial Hospital after a brief illness.
He was born December 29, 1915 in Vernon, New York, the son of John and Goldie Smith Deming. Wes was educated in Rome.
He was employed at Rome Cable Corporation for forty-one years retiring in 1977.
Mr. Deming was a veteran of the United States Army serving during World War II in the Pacific Theatre and retiring as a Sgt. He was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church, the Raquette Lake Fish and Game Club and the Raquette Lake Library Association.
He was most proud of his summer camp he built at Raquette Lake. Wes was anavid fisherman, Yankee fan and NASCAR fan. Alex Rodriquez, Dale Earnhardt, Sr. and Dale Earnhardt, Jr. were his favorite sports heroes. He loved golf and made a hole-in-one at the age of 74. Wes was also an active bowler in his earlier years.
Surviving are two nieces, Mary Gregory, Rome; Jean Clark , with whom he resided; four great-nieces, Nancy Kraynick, Vicki Raymond, Donna Clark and Karen Tomassi, seven great nephews, Donald Gregory, Bruce, Mark and Michael Edick, Craig and Dennis Clark, James Deming; several great-great nieces and nephews, several great-great-great nieces and nephews, and special family, Phyllis Clark, Sue Deming and his many friends at Raquette Lake. He was predeceased by two brothers, Leo, G. Kenneth Deming, one sister, Freda Clark, four nephews, Frank Clark, John, Thomas and Bernard Deming and one niece, Betty Quackenbush.
Wes's family wishes to express their gratitude to Dr. Kesava Potluri and the staff on 2 North at Rome Memorial Hospital for the kindness and compassion shown to him during his illness.
Funeral services will be held at the Nunn and Harper Funeral Home, Inc., 418 N. George Street, Rome Thursday at 10:00A.M. Interment Westmoreland Union Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home 4:00P.M. to 7:00P.M. Wednesday. Contributions may be made in Wes's memory to St. John's Lutheran Church Memorial Fund or the Raquette Lake Volunteer Fire Department.
