Obituary:Frederick M. "Freddie" Fenton, Sr., 81, of 1914 N. Madison St., Rome, passed away on Tuesday, January 8, 2008, in Rome Memorial Hospital, following a brief illness. He was born on August 10, 1926, in Oswego, NY, the son of Daniel and Frances Haag Fenton. He attended Oswego Schools. On December 3, 1949, he married Diane Griffin in Rome.
He was employed by Revere Copper and Brass Products, for over thirty years, retiring in 1994.
Freddie proudly served his country as a member of the United States Navy during WWII in the European Theatre.
He was a member of St. Paul's Church, the Rome V.F.W., and the Henry P. Smith Post American Legion.
Surviving besides his loving wife of fifty-eight years, Diane; are four daughters and two sons-in-law, Sharron Calandra, JoAnn Burtchell, Cathy and Frank Blockston, Jr., and Patricia and Robert Graham; two sons, Daniel Fenton, and Frederick M. Fenton, Jr., all of Rome; one sister and brother-in-law, Rita and Floyd Koronowski, Marcy; a sister-in-law, Rose Fenton, VA; ten grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. Freddie was predeceased by two brothers and a sister-in-law, M. Edward Fenton and Richard and Eleanor Fenton; and a son-in-law, Guy Calandra, Sr.
Freddie's family wishes to express their gratitude to Dr. Patrick and the Rome Memorial Hospital staff of 2 North and ICU for their kindness and compassion shown to him during his illness
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, January 12, 2008, at St. Peter's Church at 10:30 AM. There are no calling hours. Arrangements have been entrusted to Nunn and Harper Funeral Home, Inc., 418 N. George St., Rome.
