Obituary: Walter Staloff, 79, of Ava, died on Thursday, September 13, 2007, in Rome Memorial Hospital. He was born on April 25, 1928, in Mount Vernon, NY, the son of Edward and Ruth Schill Staloff. He graduated from A.B. Davis High School in Mount Vernon, Middlebury College for American Literature and received his Master's from
Syracuse University in History . On May 18, 1968 he married Maureen Kelley in Taberg.
He worked as a substitute and full time teacher in the Rome and South Lewis School District for several years, retiring in March 1966. He previously worked at the Rome DDSO and Rome Sentinel for 10 years as a Reporter. He served his country in the United States Army as a Radio Operator/Translator during the Korean Conflict.
Walter was very active in the Rome Community Theatre as an Actor and Director. In addition he was also active in Environmental and Conservation Groups.
He was very a very compassionate, caring, giving person who touched many lived
profoundly and will be missed by all.
Walter was an avid skier and swimmer.
Surviving besides his wife; a son, Joel, Rome; a sister, Edna Bouchal, Rochester; and a granddaughter, Alexis.
Services: Private services will be held at the convenience of the family. There are no calling hours. Contributions may be made in Walter's memory to the Rome Community Theatre, Rome Art and Community Center, Jervis Library, Capital Theatre and The Tug
