Obituary:Bruce G. Ouderkirk, 85, formerly of Wood Street, Rome died Monday, December 24, 2007 in Rome Memorial Hospital Skilled Nursing Facility. He was born July 8,
1922 in Mountain, Ontario, Canada the son of Simon and Gertrude Baker Ouderkirk.
Mr. Ouderkirk was a graduate of Rome Free Academy.
On March 25, 1943 he married Katherine Lutz in Rome. She died in 2004.
Bruce was employed by General Millwork Corporation, Utica for several years retiring in 1984. He previously worked at General Lumber in Rome.
He was a veteran of the United States Army serving during World War II
in the European Theatre.
Mr. Ouderkirk was a member of the First United Methodist Church.
Bruce's number one joy in life was his family, including his beloved wife, "Liz"
his two daughters and sons-in-law, Susan and Richard LaMarche, Gansevoort; Pamela and Dr. Brian Alessi, Sylvan Beach; and three cherished grandchildren, Justin,
Spencer and Ashley. He is also survived by his brother , Keith Ouderkirk of Rome and
several nieces and nephews. The frequent visits and wonderful surprises of his niece, Jennifer Lutz, brought Bruce great joy.
Among Bruce's passions were golf, gardening and dabbling in the kitchen. His keen sense of humor always shined through, bringing joy to all who knew him.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the staff on 3 North,
especially , Val, Terry, John and Lee for their kindness and compassion. Above all
the love, care and devotion of Dr. Brian Alessi will never be forgotten.
Funeral services will be held at the Nunn and Harper Funeral Home, Inc., 418
N. George Street, Rome Friday 1:00P.M. . Interment Evergreen Cemetery
