Obituary:William P. "Bill" Baynes, 90, of 6708 Potter Rd., Rome, died on Wednesday, December 19, 2007, in Betsy Ross Skilled Nursing Facility, following a brief illness. He was born on August 6, 1917, in Rome, the son of Walter and Mary O'Brien Baynes. He graduated from St. Aloysius Academy and Utica School of Commerce. On April 26, 1941, he married Eunice Volmer in Rome.
He was employed by Revere Copper and Brass Products for over forty years, retiring in 1981. Bill was a charter member of St. Paul's Roman Catholic Church. He was an honorary life member of the Elks Club and the Knights of Columbus Council #391. He was an active fifty-year golfer and a member of McConnellsville Golf Club where he served as past president. Bill had five holes-in-one in his golfing career.
Surviving besides his loving wife, Eunice; a daughter and son-in-law, Carol and John Clancy, Rome; three grandchildren, Timothy Clancy, Alexandria, VA, Kate and Kenneth Thompson, Ramsey, NJ, and Maureen and Patrick Pelisson, Telluride, CO; two great-grandchildren, Brendan Michael Thompson and Maura Clancy Thompson; and a special cousin, Mary Ann McInerney.
A Mass of the Christian Burial will be held at St, Paul's Roman Catholic Church on Thursday, December 27, 2007, at a time to be announced. Interment will take place in St. Peter's Cemetery. There are no calling hours. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the Nunn and Harper Funeral Home, Inc., 418 N. George St., Rome. Contributions may be made in Bill's memory to St. Paul's Church Memorial Fund.
