Finster, 76, of 9332 Podunk Rd., Lee Center, died on Thursday, December 13, 2007, at his home with his loving family at his side. He was born on August 4, 1931, in Rome, NY, the son of Walter and Izetta Kobler Finster. He attended Lee Center schools. On January 12, 1955, he married Carol VanWagenen in Boonville. Fred proudly served his country as a member of the United States Marine Corps from 1952-1954. After working a short time at Revere Copper and Brass, he began his career as a Heavy Equipment Operator with the 416th Civil Engineering Division of Griffiss Air Force Base, retiring on April 18, 1988. Since that time, he has been self-employed maintaining the Lee Town Park, Municipal Building, and other jobs within the community. He was a member of the Town of Lee Democratic Committee. Fred's world revolved around his wife, children, and grandchildren. His greatest joy was being involved with his grandchildren, attending their functions, playing ball, giving them rides on the tractor, walking in the woods, and supervising the pool. He loved life, having something to say to everyone he met, tooting his horn and waving to everyone on the way. Surviving besides his loving wife of fifty-two years, Carol; is a daughter and son-in-law, Debbie and Doc Williamson of Ava; two sons and daughters-in-law, Dennis and Mary Finster of Taberg, and Douglas and Sharon Finster of Lee Center; the sunshines of his life, seven grandchildren, Shawn and his fiancé, Danielle, Erin, Tess, and Claire Finster, Adam, Kyle, and Kara Williamson; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Paul and Vie Finster of Rome, and John and Marian Finster of Lee Center; four sisters and a brother-in-law, Luella and Harold VanWagenen, Lee Center, Izetta Thomas, Lee Center, Virgina Prosser, Rome, and Pauline Koster, Rome; sisters and brothers-in-laws, Betty and Harry Bennett, Ruth and Bob Zimmers, Lois Mathis, Howard and Joann VanWagenen, and Phyllis Sauer; several nieces, nephews; special relatives and friends. Fred was predeceased by his mother and father, Izetta and Walter Finster, brothers, Charles, Walt, and Donald; sisters, Frances Sharpe, and Emily Alder; brother-in-law, Donald Mathis; and a special granddaughter, Makayla A. Williamson in March 2002. The Finster family would like to send a heartfelt thanks and appreciation to Joanie and Elaine Klingbail, along with Joyce and Mary Ann of Hospice and Palliative Care, Inc., Funeral services will be held at the Nunn and Harper Funeral Home, Inc., 418 N. George St., Rome, on Monday, December 17, 2007, at 9:30 AM. Interment will take place in Evergreen Cemetery. Family and friends are invited and may call on Sunday from 2:00 to 6:00 PM at the funeral home. Contributions in Fred's memory may be made to the Lee Center Volunteer Fire Department or Hospice and Palliative Care, Inc. Services: Funeral services will be held at the Nunn and Harper Funeral Home, Inc., 418 N. George St., Rome, on Monday, December 17, 2007, at 9:30 AM. Interment will take place in Evergreen Cemetery. Family and friends are invited and may call on Sunday from 2:00 to 6:00 PM at the funeral home.
