Obituary:Lois A. Ramsdale, 62, of 7150 Hurlbut Lane, Rome, died peacefully at her home on Tuesday, November 13, 2007, with her loving family at her side. She was born on May 6, 1945, in Rome, the daughter of Joseph and Marie Cerio Trophia.
Surviving besides her devoted husband, Howard; is a daughter, Heather L. Ramsdale; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Joanne and Vincent Orlando, of Bedford, MA, and Lorraine and Michael Bobela, of Turin, NY; and several nieces and nephews.
Lois graduated from St. Aloysius Academy and attended Parsons College in Iowa. She received her Bachelor Degree from Utica College and a Master Degree in Education from SUNY Cortland.
On November 20, 1970, she married Howard L. Ramsdale in St. Peter's Church in Rome.
As a dedicated teacher for Rome City School District for over thirty years, Lois touched the lives of countless students. She had previously taught in the Camden School District and St. Mary's School in Rome.
Lois enjoyed spending time with her family at home. She loved mornings and looked forward to having her coffee while relaxing with her pets. She spent her summers with her husband, Howard, on the St. Lawrence River where she loved to swim in icy water and have dinner with friends.
Lois was an excellent baker and everyone waited all year long for her irreplaceable Christmas cookies. Her affection for animals kept her busy as she was always looking for a safe home for stray cats and dogs.
She was an extraordinary friend, someone who radiated an energy and vivaciousness for life with her beautiful smile. Lois loved to help others and often put the comfort of her family and friends ahead of herself. People were drawn to her for guidance and she always took the time to give thoughtful and wise advice.
Lois was unassuming in her giving nature, humble, yet extraordinary. She believed in "keeping it simple" and that is what allowed her true heart to always shine through in everything she did.
And she could dance like no one else.
