I have worked with Fred for the past few years on the advisory board of the Rome Salvation Army. I knew Fred as a quiet but thoughtful man, with a great amount of appreciation for the greater Rome community, its people, and everything it had to offer. He was a pleasure to work with and his passing is a great loss to his family and the entire community.

Doug Cameron, my husband, knew Fred from his years at Rome Labs, and worked with him at the Rome Community Theater where Doug did the lighting for many years. He would have come to Fred's wake, but he is now at Bethany Gardens Skilled Living Center with debilitating Parkinson's Disease. He asked me to send this sympathy message on his behalf.

Mike and Kristen, John and I will be missing Fred's services as we are out of town. My father is having surgery. Our thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. As you know Fred was very special to us and we will greatly miss him but I also know he is at peace and I'm sure planning on how to make things better in heaven.

I worked many times with Fred at the Rome Community Theater over the years when I also volunteered my time there. He was always a friendly, fair-minded, and enthusiastic person, only interested in the furthering of community theater and indeed, any theater and cultural events, for Rome. It was an honor to know him.

Rome has lost one of its most hardworking, dedicated and generous citizens. I am proud to have known Fred for the past two years in my capacity as Executive Director of the Rome Community Foundation. Fred served our organization well as a Board Member and Chairman of the Grant Committee. He was very proud of his role and was an asset to our organization. I was part of the committee that honored Fred in September. It was a very proud moment for him and he captivated the audience with his acceptance speech. Our thoughts and prayers go out to his family at this sad time. Fred will be missed by many and remembered fondly by all of us who had the privilege to know him.

Robert and I are deviated. What a loss to the community. He might not have been the first to throw the switch when the doors opened for the first time, but he was the one that changed the bulb when it burnt out. A humble man of great presence. "When a man's work on Earth is done, he is called Home" Heaven can always use another carpenter.

Mr Fred was the person who kept me 'grounded' quite literally during my habitat build on W. Thomas St. As we worked with the electrical wiring together, to complete my sweat equity hours, he was patient with his instruction and fun to work with! May he Rest in Peace and My Sincere Condolences to his family.
Yes, More people should live as he did by example.
