Obituary:
Anthony J. Montoya, Sr., 86, of Rome, died on Thursday, August 30, 2007, at St. Elizabeth's Hospital in Utica. He was born on December 12, 1920, in Cleveland, NM, the son of Frank and Juanita Trujillo Montoya. He graduated from Bingham Canyon High School in Utah. On June 7, 1944, he married Marie Urbanik at the Old St. Mary's Cathedral in San Francisco, CA. She died on November 14, 2005.
He was the director, producer, and host of the WUTR Public Service TV Show "Close Up on Aging". He was previously employed as the Director of the Office of the Aging in Oneida County. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Marines during WWII, Pacific Theatre.
He was a member of Transfiguration Church, the Marine Corps League, American Legion Smith Post, and the Ukrainian Club. He was also a life member of the VFW, the Steczko Post, and the Polish Home. He was a city alderman, county legislature, and former President of the Common Council.
Surviving are two sons Bruce and Donna Montoya, and David Montoya, both of Rome; three sisters and one brother-in-law, Mary Montoya, Marion Chonhan, and Rosie and Lee Romero, all of Utah; two brothers and two sisters-in-law, Henry and Joy Montoya, Utah, and Patton and Charley Montoya, Bremmerton, WA; two grandchildren, Michelle and Marc Browne and Lisa and Josh Jeror; and four great-grandchildren, Madison Marie, Zoe, Joshua, and Mia. He was predeceased by a son, Anthony Montoya, Jr.; a sister, Cleo Pacheco; and a brother, Ray Montoya.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, September 1, 2007, at the Nunn and Harper Funeral Home, Inc., 418 N. George St., Rome, at 10:30 AM and 11:00 AM at Transfiguration Church. Interment St. Mary's Cemetery. Friends are invited and may call on Friday from 5:00 to 8:00 PM at the funeral home. Contributions may be made in Anthony's memory to the Transfiguration Church Memorial Fund.
