Obituary of Noreen Crippen

Noreen M. "Sis" Crippen, 70, of Rome, passed away on Thursday, June 5, 2014 at the Rome Center. She battled cancer with the same strength and humor that she lived her life with. She grew up in Northwestern, the daughter of John and Alberta Wollaber Scherz. She moved to Texas where she lived for 25 years until recently moving back to Rome. Noreen's family would like to thank the staff at the Rome Center for the care and compassion shown to her in her final days. She is survived by: her son, John E. Smith, Jr., and his companion, Patty Coady, of Rome; a brother, Spencer Scherz, of New York; five grandchildren, Megan, Jessica, Michael, Travis and Troy; and two great-grandchildren, Ava and Aleigha. She was predeceased by a daughter, Wendy Preyear and a brother, John "Buck" Scherz. "Courage is born in the presence of fear and with it comes bravery." Private services will be held at the convenience of the family. There are no calling hours. Arrangements have been entrusted to Nunn and Harper Funeral Home, Inc., 418 N. George St., Rome.
