Obituary:Dorthy M. Girard, 89, of Rome-Oriskany Road, died June 29, 2007, at her home. She was born on February 19, 1918, in Massena, the daughter of Fred and Charlotte Rouselle Amo. She attended Massena schools. On December 17, 1934, she married Adala (Dell) Girard, at St. Mary's Church in Fort Covington, NY. He died August 10, 1999.
Dorthy worked at Goldberg's for several years, retiring in 1980. She previously worked at the Fabric Shop in Massena.
Surviving are four daughters and two sons-in-law, Rena Wolcott, Rome, Mae Cryderman, Gouverneur, Shirley and John Pecore, Colonial Heights, VA, and Mary Ann and Dick Piersall, Blossvale; one sister, Elizabeth Sharlow, Brasher Falls; eight grandchildren, Fred, Charlotte and JoAnn Wolcott, Lee and Bill Cryderman, Joe and John Lee Pecore, and Alisa Piersall Aikens; thirteen great grandchildren; three great-great grandsons; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was predeceased by her brother, Leo Amo; sister, Edna Villnave; and two sons-in-law, Elwood Cryderman and Howard Wolcott.
The family wishes to extend a special thank you to the Brady and Reid families, Dorthy's neighbors, and Dr. Joel Amidon, Jr., for their kindness and compassion shown to Dorthy.
Funeral services will be held at the Nunn and Harper Funeral Home, Inc, 418 N. George St., Rome, on Monday, July 2, 2007, at 10:30 AM. Interment Rome Cemetery. Friends are invited and may call on Sunday from 4:00 to 7:00 PM at the funeral home. At the family's request, please omit flowers.
