Obituary: Robert A. Rosenburgh, 91, of Framingham, Massachusetts, formerly of Rome, passed away on Tuesday, October 28, 2008, at the Carlyle House in Framingham, MA. He was born on September 9, 1917, in Rome, the son of Chester and Margaret Avery Rosenburgh. He was a graduate of Rome Free Academy. On June 29, 1943, he was united in marriage to Helen Jacobus.
He was employed by Revere Copper and Brass Products for over forty-seven years.
Robert proudly served his country as a member of the United States Army and the United States Air Force. He was drafted in April of 1941 and served in the infantry until after Pearl Harbor, when he was accepted into the Air Force. On June 22, 1943, he received his wings and 1st Lieutenant commission. From October of 1943 to September of 1944, he served with the 55th Fighter group stationed in Wormingford, England. Robert was in the first group of fighter planes to fly from England to Berlin. During his service, he flew in seventy-nine missions over enemy territory, flying P-38's and P-51's, and flew bomber cover in the Normandy Invasion, earning the Air Medal with 3 oak leaf clusters, the Distinguished Flying Cross and many other medals. He retired from the Air Force Reserve as a Lieutenant Colonel in 1977.
Mr. Rosenburgh served as the President of the Rome Common Council from 1968-1972. He was a member of the Zion Episcopal Church, where he was served on the Vestry and as an usher, the McConnellsville Golf Club, Teugega Country Club, and the 55th Fighter Group. Robert was the Treasurer of the Rome Home for many years.
Surviving besides his loving wife of sixty-five years, Helen; are a daughter and son-in-law, Julie and Jerome Janisko, of Holliston, MA; a son and daughter-in-law, James and Mary Cameron Rosenburgh, of Westlake, OH; three grandsons, William Janisko and his wife, Patina, 1st Lt. Thomas Janisko, and his wife, Amanda, and Brian Rosenburgh; two great-grandsons, Dylan Janisko, and Avery Madore-Janisko; a sister, Theodora Gifford, of Rome, NY; two sisters-in-law, Mabel Getebehead, of Weaverville, NC, and Patricia Rosenburgh of Bedford, PA and one brother in law, Robert Griffin of Rome, NY, in addition to several nieces and nephews. Robert was predeceased by his siblings, Margaret, Caroline, Chester, Arthur, and Frederica; and a grandson, Matthew Janisko.
Services: Funeral services will be held on Saturday, November 1, 2008, at the Zion Episcopal Church at 1:30 PM where the Rev. Edward Hunt and Rev. Jerome Janisko will officiate. Interment will take place in Rome Cemetery where Military Honors will be preformed. Family and friends are invited and may call at the Nunn and Harper Funeral Home, Inc., 418 N.
