Obituary:Betty L. Roman, 79, of Rome, died June 8, 2005 in St. Luke's Healthcare Facility. She was born February 12, 1926, in Rome, the daughter of August and Florence Darrah Lauri. Betty graduated from Westmoreland High School in 1942 and the Excelsior School of Business to become a valued Legal Secretary acknowledged by her peers. On May 24, 1947, she married John P. Roman in St. Peter's Church. Betty was a wife, mother, grandmother and friend to be respected and loved by all that knew her. One of her most cherished memories is the fact that she could use her legal secretarial training in behalf of two sons, who after graduation from Law School and passing the Bar Exam, now had to finally set up offices to earn a living. She told them how and showed them how because she had the experience and the desire to help. Surviving besides her husband are, three daughters and sons-in-law, Barbara and Dennis Wolanin, Rome, Rose and William Pirillo, Fayetteville, and Lynda and Stephen O'Malley, North Massapequa, Long Island; four sons and daughters-in-law, David and Mary, Oswego, Robert and Catherine, Rome, Thomas and Deborah, Oriskany, and James and Laura, Chittenango; two brothers, Frank Lauri, Rome, and Paul Lauri, Clark Mills; sixteen grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; and sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, and cousins. Betty was predeceased by two brothers, Robert and David Lauri. Funeral services will be held on Friday 9:15am at the Nunn and Harper Funeral Home, Inc., 418 N. George St., Rome, and St. Peter's Church at 10am. Interment will take place in St. Peter's Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Thursday 2-4pm and 7-9pm. Contributions in Betty's memory may be made to the St. Peter's Church Restoration Fund, 105 E. Liberty St., Rome, NY 13440
