Obituary: Richard P. Lehman, 81, of W. Chestnut St., formerly of N. Madison St., Rome, passed away on Tuesday, January 20, 2009, at Bethany Gardens. He was born on March 17, 1927, in Springboro, PA, the son of Adam and Elizabeth Best Lehman. He was a graduate of Springboro High School. On August 1, 1953, he was united in marriage to Opale Matters in San Francisco, CA. Opale passed away on December 26, 1985. On January 23, 1988, he was united in marriage to Thelma Converse Simon in West Seneca, NY.
Richard proudly served his country as a member of the United States Air Force, serving during the Korean and Vietnam Wars. He retired in 1966 as a Tech Sgt. He later was a bus driver for the West Seneca School System, retiring in 1987.
Mr. Lehman was a member of St. Joseph's Church in Lee Center. He was active in the A.A.R.P. and the Rome Moose Lodge.
Surviving besides his loving wife of twenty years, Thelma; are two daughters and sons-in-law, Bonnie and Mark Czupkowski, of Erie, PA, Janetta Taylor, of Lorraine, PA; four sons and a daughter-in-law, David and Sandy Lehman, of Erie, PA, Edwin Lehman, Richard Lehman, both of Buffalo, and Joseph and Sim Lehamn, of Eleria, PA; a step-daughter, Sheila Simon, of Amherst, MA; and a step-son and daughter-in-law, Donald and Amanda Simon, of North Port, FL; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Services: A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, January 24, 2009, at 9:30 AM at St. Joseph's Church, Lee Center, where the Rev. Paul V. Carey will officiate. Interment will take place in St. James Cemetery, in Crossingville, PA. There are no calling hours. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Nunn and Harper Funeral Home, Inc., 418 N. George St., Rome.
