Obituary: John Hayduk, 74, of 5800 Springhouse Rd., Rome, passed away unexpectedly Monday, December, 29, 2008, at Rome Memorial Hospital, following a brief illness. He was born on January 6, 1934, in Dunmore, PA, the son of Michael and Mary Tokarsky Hayduk, Sr. He was a graduate of Westmoreland Central High School.
In April 1936, he moved to 5800 Springhouse Rd. with his family and has resided there the rest of his life.
John is a retired dairy farmer.
Mr. Hayduk was a life member of the Lowell Volunteer Fire Department. In 2004, John was honored for his dedicated service to the fire department. He is a past Fire Chief of the department and was a member of the Oneida County Volunteer Fire Chiefs Organization.
He was a member of St. Michael's Greek Catholic Church in Rome. John was also a member of the American-Ukrainian Veteran's and Men's Club, the Frank J. Steczko Post, and the Rome Polish Home.
John leaves behind two sisters, Ann Rhodes, of Cape Coral, FL, and Sylvia Jubis, of Whitesboro; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Michael and Helen Hayduk, Jr., and Joseph and Ann Hayduk, all of Rome; a niece, Cynthia and her husband, Dan Kernan, of Liverpool; four nephews, Michael Hayduk and his wife, Gina, of Clinton, Eric Hayduk, of Cambridge, MA, Brian Hayduk, of Fort Lauderdale, FL, and Robert Jubis and his wife, Cathy, of Sauquoit; four great-nieces, Kristen Kernan, Megan Kernan, both of Liverpool, Lindsay Hayduk, of Clinton, and Rachel Jubis, of Sauquoit; and four great-nephews, Dan Kernan, David Kernan, both of Liverpool, Michael D. Hayduk, of Clinton, and Robert T. Jubis, of Sauquoit.
Services: Funeral services will be held Saturday, January 3, 2009, at the Nunn and Harper Funeral Home, Inc., 418 N. George St., Rome, at 9:30 AM and a Mass of the Christian Burial at St. Michael's Greek Catholic Church at 10:30 AM where the Rev. Michael Buntz will officiate. Interment will take place in St. Mary's Cemetery. Family and friends are invited and may call the funeral home on Friday from 4:00 to 7:00 PM. A parastas service will be held at 6:30 PM on Friday.
