Obituary: Ida M. Whipple, 88, of 1500 N. James St., Rome, formerly of Palmer Rd., Taberg, passed away on Thursday, December 11, 2008, at Rome Memorial Hospital Skilled Nursing Facility. She was born on December 11, 1920, in Rome, the daughter of George and Mary Smith Alder. She was a graduate of Rome Free Academy. On February 24, 1940, she was united in marriage to Charles Whipple in Rome. Mr. Whipple passed away on September 21, 1974.
Ida was the owner/operator of Taberg Commission Sales with her husband for many years. She retired in 1974.
Mrs. Whipple was a member of Taberg United Methodist Church, Annsville Friendship Club, Meeker-O'Rourke American Legion Ladies Auxiliary, and the Order of the Eastern Star.
Surviving are two daughters and a son-in-law, Eleanor Whipple, of Rome, and Shirley and John Potter, of Blossvale; two sons and daughters-in-law, George and Joan Whipple, of Taberg, and Rev. Charles and Linda Whipple, of Greensburg, PA; four sisters and two brothers-in-law, Sarah and Tom Salisbury, of Lee Center, Marie Landi; Julia Lauber, both of Rome, Grace and Arnold Cogswell, of Norman, OK; a brother, Thomas Alder, of Lee Center; ten grandchildren; and sixteen great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a sister, Bertha Wyman.
Ida's family wishes to extend their gratitude to the staff at Rome Memorial Hospital Skilled Nursing Facility and Dr. Nicoletta Tallandini for their kindness and compassion shown to her.
Services: Funeral services will be held on Saturday, December 13, 2008, at the Nunn and Harper Funeral Home, Inc., 418 N. George St., Rome, at 12:00 PM where the Rev. Edward Veaudry will officiate. Interment will take place in Maple Hill Cemetery. Family and friends are invited and may call at the funeral home on Saturday from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM.
