Obituary: Joseph J. Skalski, Jr., 72, of W. Liberty St., Rome, passed away on Saturday, December 6, 2008, at Rome Memorial Hospital. He was born on January 18, 1936, in Rome, the son of Joseph and Francis Rosiak Skalski, Sr. He attended Rome Free Academy and the Rome Trade School. On April 7, 1962, he was united in marriage to Ann Unanagst in St. John's Lutheran Church.
Joseph was employed by Matlack and Glo-Gas of Rome for several years.
Mr. Skalski proudly served his country as a member of the United States Navy during the Korean War.
He was a member of the National American Legion, the Teamsters Local #317, and the Rome Polish Home.
Surviving besides his loving wife of forty-six years, Ann; are two special daughters and a son-in-law, Victoria Skalski, of Rome, and Bonnie and Jay Staple, of Taberg; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Josephine Clemens, of Sylvan Beach, and Joyce and William Underwood, of Rome; three grandchildren, Kevin Merchant, Jr., Anna Skalski, and Jayden Staple; and several nieces and nephews. Joseph was predeceased by a brother, Walter Hylla, and a brother-in-law, James Clemens.
Services: Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, December 9, 2008, at 6:00 PM at the Nunn and Harper Funeral Home, Inc., 418 N. George St., Rome, where the Rev. Marion Pocziecha will officiate. Interment will take place in All Saints Polish National Cemetery in the spring.
