Obituary:Stanley H. (Stan) Drisgula, 89, formerly of Rome, died April 25, 2006 in Skaneateles, NY, after a brief illness. He was born September 23, 1916, in Housatonic, MA, the son of Alexander and Mary Parzych Drisgula. His father passed away when Stan was very young and his mother later married Alexsander Gromelski, who raised him. He was educated in Rome schools. On April 27, 1946, he married Anne Trela in Springfield, MA.
Stan worked at Rome Cable Corp. for over 30 years, retiring in 1978. He served in the US Army Air Corps in the Pacific Theater during World War II.
Mr. Drisgula was a member of Transfiguration Church and the Holy Names Society and Usher's Society. He was also a member of the Steczko Post and the Rome Polish Home. Stan played golf everyday the weather would allow in his retirement and would often brag that he shot lower than his age. He was a kind and gentle man, who was beloved by everyone who knew him.
Surviving besides his wife of almost 60 years are, two daughters and a son-in-law, Kathy Lovier, Skaneateles, and Mary and Tom Hake, Whitesboro; one son and daughter-in-law, Paul and Mary Drisgula, Scotia, NY; one sister, Laura Lachut, Rome; one brother, Richard Gromelski, Rome; eight grandchildren, Dr. John Lovier, Laura Kuhns, Kristine Terrazzino, Carolyn Boniface, Vincent Card, Katie Card, Lian Drisgula, Benjamin Drisgula, Ryan Hake and Brett Hake; eleven great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Stan was predeceased by two brothers, Joseph Drisgula and Raymond Gromelski, and four sisters, Regina Myslinski, Anna Roman, Helen Blockstan, and Gladys Harris.
Funeral services will be held on Friday at 12:45pm at the Nunn and Harper Funeral Home, Inc., 418 N. George St., and 1:30pm at Transfiguration Church. Interment will take place in St. Mary's Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Thursday from 5-8pm. Contributions in Stan's memory maybe made to the Transfiguration Church Memorial Fund or the Hospice and Palliative Care Associates, 990 7th North St., Liverpool, NY 13088.
