"Jim" Piatkowski Date of Death: Friday, October 24, 2008 Residence: Ava, NY Age: 93 Obituary:James "Jim" Piatkowski, 93, of Ava, died October 24, 2008 in Rome Memorial Hospital after a brief illness. He was born June 19, 1915 in Youngstown, OH, the son of Anthony and Martha Kaczorowski Piatkowski. He was educated in the town of Western schools. On May 6, 1944, he married Stella Safran in Transfiguration Church. She passed away November 21, 1996. Jim worked at Revere Copper and Brass for several years before taking over the family dairy farm, which he owned and operated for over 50 years. Mr. Piatkowski was a member of Transfiguration Church and the Polish Home. He also loved the outdoors and was an avid bowler, hunter and fisherman. Jim was a member of the National American Hunting Club, National American Fishing Club, National Rifle Association, Ducks Unlimited, and New York Outdoorsmen. He loved all animals and considered them like pets. He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Phyllis and Edward Goworek, of Ava; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by a sister, Mary Matt, and three brothers, Joseph, Steven and Stanley. Services: Funeral services will be held on Tuesday at 9:30am at the Nunn and Harper Funeral Home, Inc., 418 N. George St., Rome, and 10am at Transfiguration Church. Interment will take place in St. Mary's Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Monday from 2-4pm and 7-9pm.
