Podkowka, 90, of 1006 Jervis Ave., Rome, passed away on Friday, September 12, 2008, at Bethany Gardens. She was born on May 25, 1918, in Fort Wayne, Indiana, the daughter of Anthony and Anna Jeszynski Pogozelski. She was educated in Turin schools. On June 26, 1938, she was united in marriage to Walter M. Podkowka for sixty-two years. Mr. Podkowka passed away on March 11, 2001. Mrs. Podkowka was a member of St. Paul's Church Surviving are a son, Peter Podkowka and his special companion, Charlotte Hubal; two grandsons, Dr. Todd Podkowka and his wife, Kim, and Scott Podkowka and his wife, Dana; four great-grandchildren, Hunter, Chase, Jakob, and Casey, all of Rome; and four sisters and one brother-in-law, Helen Gamble, Watertown, NY, Joan Sliwoski, of Rochester, Mary Kraeger, Turin, Josephine and John Repak, of Lowville. Stella was predeceased by a special daughter-in-law, Harriett Podkowka; a sister, Elizabeth Ward; and two brothers, Chester Pogozelski, and Stanley Pogozelski. Services: Funeral services will be held at the Nunn and Harper Funeral Home, Inc., 418 N. George St., Rome, on Tuesday, September 16, 2008, at 10:15 AM and a Mass of the Christian Burial at St. Paul's Church at 11:00 AM where the Rev. Robert L. Kelly will officiate. Interment will take place in Rome Cemetery. Family and friends are invited and may call at the funeral home on Monday from 4:00 to 7:00 PM.
