"Kitty Mittens" Ayers Date of Death: Wednesday, September 03, 2008 Residence: Henderson, NC Age: 91 Obituary:Catherine J.(Kitty Mittens) Ayers, 91, of Henderson, North Carolina, formerly of Crossgates Road, Rome, died Wednesday, September 3, 2008, at the Maria Parham Medical Center, Henderson, North Carolina, after a long illness. She was born January 5, 1917, Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, the daughter of James and Mary Catherine Brenneman Mitten. Mrs. Ayers was a graduate of Altoona High School in Pennsylvania. On April 19, 1942, she was united in marriage to John B. Ayers in New York City. He died on August 14, 1988. Mrs. Ayers was employed at Rome Hospital for eighteen years, retiring in 1977. While in Rome, she was a member of St. Peter's Church and the Ava Dorfman Senior Center. Surviving are two daughters and a son-in-law, Mary and Gerald Holmes, of Albany, New York; Joni Ayers and her companion of twenty-two years, Wallace Jones, of Henderson, with whom she resided, three grandchildren, Peter John Sundnes, Matthew Holmes, Kelly Owens and seven great-grandchildren, Henry, Jack, Aidan, Keegan, Liam, Lauren and Evan. She was predeceased by two daughters, Patty Ann Sundnes and Mary Elizabeth Ayers. Services: Funeral services will be held Monday, September, 8, 2008, at 2:00P.M. at the Nunn and Harper Funeral Home, Inc., 418 N. George Street, Rome. Interment St. Peter's Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home Monday 12:00P.M. to 2:00P.M.
