Obituary: Lyndon B. "Did" Jones, 87, of Rome, passed away on Sunday, July 6, 2008, at his home with his loving wife at his side. He was born on September 21, 1920, in Rome, the son of Arthur and Ola Backer Jones. He was a graduate of Rome Free Academy. On March 8, 1947, Did was united in marriage with Lillian Stermensky in Rome.
He was the owner and operator of Did Jones and Son Garage for over fifty-six years, retiring in 1996.
Did was a member of the B.P.O.E. Rome Lodge No. 96, the Shriners-Ziyara, the Roman-Hathaway Masonic Lodge 223, the Flying Fez, the Scottish Rite, the Fort Stanwix Volunteer Fire Department, the Benevolent Volunteer Firemen, and the Lake Delta Yacht Club. Did was a former member of the Griffiss Ski Club, the Trail Busters Snow Mobile Club, and the Mohegan Model "A" Ford Club.
Surviving besides his loving wife of sixty-one years, Lillian; are two daughters and sons-in-law, Lynda and Ross Barto, of Mustang, OK, and Kathy and Jerry Maurer; two sons and daughters-in-law, Douglas and Tara Jones, and David and Lynda Jones, all of Rome; three brothers and two sisters-in-law, Brayton "Bub" Jones, of Largo, FL and Rome, Hubert "Hubie" and Agnes Jones, of Rome, and Duane "Danny" and Joyce Jones, of Stuart, FL, and Boonville; thirteen grandchildren, Suzanne and her husband, Manny Leon, Jeff Barto, Shannon and her husband, Jim Tobin, Sommer and her husband, Mark Riolo, Tim Jones, Heidi and her husband, Jason Ambrosius, Chris Maurer and his wife, Katie, Andy Maurer, Mary Kate Maurer, Jon Maurer, Peter Jones and his wife, Becky, Tom Jones, and Steve Jones; eight great-grandchildren, Frankie and Olivia Leon, James and Will Tobin, Brody Riolo, Caroline Ambrosius, and Kaitlyn and Kyle Jones; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at the Nunn and Harper Funeral Home, Inc., 418 N. George St., Rome, on Thursday, July 10, 2008 at 1:30 PM where the Rev. Robert L. Kelly will officiate. Interment will take place in Rome Cemetery. Family and friends are invited and may call at the funeral home on Wednesday from 5:00 to 8:00 PM.
