Obituary: Richard W. (Dick) Ellinger, 60, of Rome-Oriskany Rd., Rome, passed away on Friday, June 20, 2008, at his home with his loving family at his side following a long illness. He was born on August 15, 1947, in Rome, the son of Richard E. and Estelle Ewanyk Ellinger. He was a graduate of Oriskany High School, Class of 1966. On January 14, 1995, Richard was united in marriage with Harriett Humennyj in Rome.
He was employed by Camden Wire and was previsously employed at Revere Copper Products and Rome Cable Corporation.
Richard proudly served his country as a member of the United States Navy from 1967 to 1971. He was a member of the Green Way Fish and Game Club, the Stanwix Men's Club, and the Rome Veterans of Foreign Wars.
Surviving are a son and daughter-in-law, Richard J. and Lori Ellinger, of San Diego, CA; a step-daughter, Tami Mathews, of Sauquoit; a step-son, Chuck Mathews, of Utica; a brother and sister-in-law, Greg and Tony Ellinger, of Sackets Harbor; five grandaughters, including a special granddaughter, Julia Mathews, Katie, Kyra, Korrine, and Jennifer; special aunt and uncle, Mary and Jim Poupore, of Verona Beach; a niece, Carelin Ellinger; special friends, Dave Witusik, of Gulfport, FL, Theresa VanSlyke, of Rome, and Martin (Skeet) Proper, of Rome; and many aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Richard's family wishes to extend their gratitude to David Geloso of Walgreens, the staff of Hospice and Pallitive Care, Inc., Audrey White and Tim Birnie, the staff at the VA, Julia Navelli, and the Mohawk Glen Dialysis Unit staff.
Private services will be held at the convenience of the family. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Nunn and Harper Funeral Home, Inc., 418 N. George St., Rome.
