Obituary: Harold J. Shunk, Jr., 65, of 7286 Davis Road, Rome, New York, died, Saturday, June 14, 2008, in Rome Memorial Hospital. He was born August 21, 1942, in Reading, Pennsylvania, the son of Harold and Dorothy Angstadt Shunk. Harold was educated in Reading. On September 5, 1964, he married Laura Ulrich in Reading
Harold proudly served his country in the United States Air Force from 1964 to 1990 which included the Vietnam Era. He retired as a Senior Master Sgt.
Mr. Shunk later was employed by the Daimler Chrysler Commercial Buses of North America retiring in 2007.
Harold was a member of the Holland Patent Roberts American Legion Post 161, life member of the Stanwix Veterans Men's Club, life member and Past President of the Sandy Pond Sporting Association and was also a member of the Rome Moose Lodge.
Surviving besides his loving wife, Laura; are two daughters and sons-in-law, Barbara and Kenneth Murphy, Michelle and David Tine, one son and daughter-in-law, Joseph and Katrina Shunk, all of Rome; seven grandchildren, Kenneth, III, Travis, McKenzie, Connor, Andrew, Colin and Jonathan; three sisters and brothers-in-law, Bettye and Larry Harner, Dorothy and Daniel Brennan, Lori and Joseph Howe, two brothers and sister-in-law, James and Beverly Shunk, Christopher Shunk and his special friend, Lynn Daniels, all of Pennsylvania . He was predeceased by a sister, Jeanette Lewis.
Harold's family wishes to express their gratitude to Dr. Butala, his wonderful staff, and also Dr. Potluri, the Rome Memorial Hospital ER staff and 2 North staff for their kindness and compassion shown to him during his illness.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, June 18, 2008, at the Nunn and Harper Funeral Home, Inc., 418 N. George Street, Rome at 10:00A.M. Interment Townsend Cemetery, Stittville. Family and friends are invited and may call at the funeral home Tuesday 2:00-4:00P.M. and 7:00-9:00P.M.
