Obituary: Edward "Popi" Zionc, 80, of Rome, died May 14, 2008 in Rome Memorial Hospital. He was born April 12, 1928, in Rome the son of Andrew and Helen Mieskowitz Zionc. He was educated in Rome schools. On January 9, 1954 he married Amelia Orzechowski.
Ed served in the US Navy during the Korean Conflict aboard the USS Missouri.
Upon returning to Rome, Ed worked for 42 years at Oneida Ltd. before retiring in 1990 and continued his career as chairman of the "bored" at Xyonicz Corp.
Popi was a lifetime member of the Rome VFW #2246, the Rome Polish Home, the Ukrainian Club, and the Frank J. Steczko Post. He was an avid fisherman, horseplayer, and card player and loved his three "granddogs," Twinkie, Skip and Frankie. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
Surviving besides his wife, are two daughters and sons-in-law, Cindy and Clyde Bohl, of Rome, and Sharon and Gerald Gotti, of Rome; a son and daughter-in-law, Edward J. and Deborah Zionc, of Rome; and five grandchildren, Sheena, James, Amanda, Alyssa, and Ryan. He was predeceased by two sisters, Helen Jandzio and Jean Motsenbocker.
Funeral services will be held on Friday at 10:30am at the Nunn and Harper Funeral Home, Inc., 418 N. George St., Rome. Interment will take place in All Saints Polish National Church Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Thursday from 4-7pm.
