Obituary:Francis Clyne (Sully) Sullivan, 81, formerly of the Old Oneida Road, Rome, died Thursday, March 30, 2006 after a long illness.
He was born March 23, 1925 in Rome the son of Thomas Augustus (Gus) and Mary Clyne Sullivan.
Mr. Sullivan was a graduate of Rome Free Academy and attended Rochester Institute of Technology.
On February 15, 1947 he married Margaret E. Tibbitts in St. Peter's Church.
Mr. Sullivan was employed by Bevaco Food Service, formerly Mohawk Valley Wholesale Grocers, for forty years retiring in 1986.
Clyne was a veteran of the United States Army serving during World War II in the Pacific Theatre.
He was a member of St. Peter's Church.
Clyne enjoyed playing golf, sitting on the front porch with friends and family, and especially spending time with his granddaughters.
The family would like to thank the Fifth Floor staff at Bethany Gardens for their care during Clyne's illness. Special thanks to the private caregivers whose compassionate care was a great comfort not only to Clyne, but to his family as well. We will never forget your devotion.
Surviving besides his wife are one daughter and son-in-law, Mary Jane and Richard Lewis, Rome; two sons and a daughter-in-law, James F. Sullivan, Rome, and Thomas W. and Sheila Sullivan, Rome; five granddaughters, Shannon Sullivan, Kimberly Sullivan, Amy (Timothy) Hughes, Kelly Lewis and Michele (Kevin) Barefoot; a great grandson; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by two brothers, John W. and Thomas A. Sullivan.
Funeral services will be held at the Nunn and Harper Funeral Home, Inc., 418 N. George Street, Rome, Monday at 10am and St. Peter's Church at 10:30am. Interment will take place in St. Peter's Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Sunday from 5-8pm. Contributions in Mr. Sullivan's memory may be made to the St. Peter's Church Memorial Fund.
