Obituary: James A. (Jim) Lyke, Jr., 56, of 4813 Lee Center -Taberg Road, Taberg, New York, died Monday, January 8, 2007 at his residence after a long illness. He was born September 5, 1950 in Rome the son of James and Gertrude Storms Lyke. Jim was educated in Poland, New York. On February 4, 1978 he married Fame Witchley in Rome.
Mr. Lyke was employed by Waste Management, Utica and was previously employed by Don's Auto Recycling and Bill Herrig's Auto.
Jim was a member of the 1St Assembly of God Church.
Surviving besides his wife are five daughters and two sons-in-law, Rose and James Fiaschetti, Rome; Charlotte and Rick Hollers, Dennamora, New York; Jamie Lyke, Vidalia Lyke and Jessi Witchley, all of Rome; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Walter Thayer, Jr., and special friend, Wanda Bassett, Rome; Donald and Jennifer Thayer, Taberg; five sisters and three brothers-in-law, Florence and Dan Aikens,Rome; Sandy and Robert Finch, Westdale; Shirley and William Drake, Taberg; Beverly Garafalo and special friend, Wayne and Karen Lyke-Wilson, all of Rome; one brother and sister-in-law, Ronald and Sandra Lyke, Camden; two half-brothers and sister-in-law, Harvey Adsit, Ava; Edward and Barbara Cutler, Taberg; nine grandchildren, including a special grandson, Chad Croniser, four great-grandchildren, several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, Gertrude A.( Storms) and James Lyke, Sr., a grandson, Bobby Brodock and a brother, Robert Lyke.
The family wishes to express a special thank you to their friends, Merwin and Linda Drake, Dr. John Gallo, Shannon, Debbi, Terri, Dr. Linda Schicker, Gossi, and two special nieces, Lee Shepard and Charlotte Witchley for their kindness and compassion shown to Jim during his long illness.
Services: Funeral services will be held at the Nunn and Harper Funeral Home, Inc., 418 N. George Street, Rome Thursday at 10:30am. Interment Lee State Road Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home Wednesday 2-4 and 7-9 P.M.
