Obituary of Mable J. Converse

Please share a memory of Mable to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Mable (Golden) Converse died on November 20, 2024 at the Rehabilitation and Long-Term Care Center of Oneida Health in Oneida, NY with her loving family by her side.  She was born to Leona (Burleigh) and Earl Golden on September 4, 1932 in Rome, NY.  She graduated from Holland Patent Central School, Holland Patent, NY in June 1949.  She married Jack Converse on October 14, 1950 in the First Presbyterian Church, Rome, NY with the Rev. Percy Radford officiating.  They celebrated 59 good years together.

Mable worked at Evans and Evans Law Office, Montgomery Wards, Revere Copper and Brass, General Cable Corp, and Rome Cable Corp of Rome, NY.  Later she worked and retired from Rome Labs, Griffiss AFB, NY after 29 years of federal service.  When she was working at Griffiss, she was active in the Federal Women’s Program.

Mable was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Holland Patent, NY, where she served as an Elder, Clerk of Session, Co-Chaired the Worship Committee, Co-Chaired preparation of several Church Directories, and was an active member of the Presbyterian Women.  She enjoyed dancing, reading, knitting, crocheting, needlepoint, crafts, scrapbooking, and cross word puzzles.  She especially enjoyed spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.  Mable dearly loved all her children (grand and great grand) and was their biggest fan at all their various ball games or anything else they participated in at school, church, or elsewhere.

Mable is survived by one son, Jack, Jr. and daughter-in-law Cheri (Brown) Converse of Skaneateles, NY, two daughters, Jill Converse Seelman of Holland Patent, NY and Tammy Converse Crego of North Bay, NY and two sons-in-law, Gary Seelman and Donny Crego.  She has six grandchildren: Brandon Converse (his wife Jenn), Bethany Converse Gaich (her husband Shawn), Blake Converse, Cody Crego (Natasha Kirkland), Nicole Seelman Riccardi (her husband Dan) and Jessica Seelman Koenig (her husband Justin).  Mable also has six great grandchildren:  Jordan, Jaxon and Jayce Koenig, Tucker and Brody Riccardi, and Sylvie Converse, along with nieces and nephews too numerous to mention.

Mable was predeceased by her husband, Jack Converse, Sr.; Mother and Father, Leona (Burleigh) and Earl Golden; one brother, Robert Golden; two sisters, June Hughes of Barneveld, NY and Linda Lacell of North Bay; one daughter, Diane Converse; one granddaughter, Cheri Brown Converse; sixteen brothers-in-law and twelve sisters-in-law; and a very special Uncle Paul Golden.
