Virginia A. (Sykes) Eldridge, 83, of Rome, passed away on Saturday, November 9, 2024, at Rome Health Hospital surrounded by her loving family.

 

She was born on December 14, 1940, in Rome, the daughter of Kenneth and Katherine (Beckwith) Sykes. She was a 1959 graduate of Holland Patent Central High School.

 

On October 7, 1962, Chickie was united in marriage to Gerald E. Eldridge in Calvary Methodist Church in Rome.

 

Chickie was always busy, non-stop.  She took great pride in her home, inside and out, and it showed.  She enjoyed exercising and puzzles and in her younger years, enjoyed bowling at King Pin Lanes.  Her greatest joy in life was spending time with her beloved grandchildren.

 

She was member of St. John’s Lutheran Church, and a former member of the Stanwix Heights Fire Dept. Ladies Auxiliary.

 

Surviving besides her loving husband of sixty-two years, Jerry; are three daughters, Joanne (Robin) Esche, of Cape Coral, FL, Colleen (Larry) Brewer, of Newport News, VA, and Terri (Donald) Schultz, of Williamstown, NJ; three grandchildren, Brandon (Mark) Guglielmo, Nathan Schultz, and Peyton Schultz; her siblings, David (Rose) Sykes, of Westernville, Phillip (Dottie) Sykes, of FL, and Cheryl (Doug) Ingersoll, of Westernville; a brother-in-law, Eddie White, of AL; and many nieces and nephews. Chickie was predeceased by a brother, Wayne (Doreen) Sykes; and a sister, Carolyn White.

 

In keeping with Chickie’s wishes, there will be a private gathering for her family.
