Obituary of Pearlie M. Scott
Pearlie M. Scott, 102, died Saturday, October 19, 2024, at Rome Health, after a brief but comforting residence in the Rome Residential Health Care Facility. Born in St. Louis, MO, she was the sole child of Eula Gates Abbott and William Abbott. She was the surviving spouse of her pre-deceased husband, James L. Scott, U.S. Army-WWII veteran/career employee of Revere Copper & Brass, who passed in 1982.
Pearlie had three sons, William E. Scott (spouse Bonnie Jean Scott); James H. Scott (spouse Cora S. Scott); George A. Scott, deceased, (spouse Connie Scott); and 11 grandchildren and step-grandchildren (Kim, Lisa, Shawn, Marc (deceased), James Jr., Indira, John, Mary Elizabeth, Chevon (deceased), Damian and George Jr.) and their loving families; and 8 great-grandchildren and step great-grandchildren (Phillip, Dillon, Brian, Nicole, CJ, Kiera, Shea, and Kambria); and her dear friend, Retired U.S.A.F. Lieutenant Colonel Myron L. Donald.
Pearlie was employed by Rome State School for 20 years as a therapy aid, and retired in 1977. She was an active member of St. Mary’s Church: as Eucharistic Minister and member of the Altar Rosary Society. Her community work included membership in the Bethany Guild as a volunteer. She was also a member of the Henry P. Smith Post of the American Legion Auxiliary.
Her family expresses special thanks to Pam Blue and Pearlie’s loyal friends and neighbors in Rome Towers (especially Judy Cianfrocco) and others too numerous to mention. In addition, the family thanks the staff of the Rome Hospital for helping her through her respiratory illnesses, and thanks especially the kind and compassionate assistance of the nursing home staff who cared for “Pearlie Whirly” her during her final months. She will always be remembered for the vigor and generosity she displayed in her life into and through her centenarian years.
A Mass of Christian burial will be held on Friday, October 25th, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Peter’s Church. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery following mass. There are no calling hours.
Contributions in lieu of flowers may be directed in her memory to St. Mary’s and St. Peter’s Churches.
