Obituary of Jim Sawicki

Please share a memory of Jim to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

With sadness, my sister and I would like to announce the passing of our brother, James (Jim) A. “Zig” Sawicki, on September 11, 2024 in Upland, CA.  Formerly of Rome, NY, he was born on August 4, 1957, son of the late Stanislaw and Helen (Zacharicz) Sawicki.  Jim attended Transfiguration and graduated from Rome Catholic High School as part of the class of 1975.

Wanting to pursue a career in law enforcement, Jim received his certification in Fingerprinting from MVCC.  He worked as a service attendant at Salerno’s Gas Station and merchandise stocker for Rite-Aid Warehouse, before a change in his plans led him to California.  There, Jim worked for Citrus Fruits, then chose a career with the United States Postal Service, retiring after 30 years.

Jim was a loyal sports fan to the Boston Red Sox baseball team, especially when playing against the New York Yankees, as well as a fan to the Green Bay Packers football team.  He was an avid reader; a movie buff; family genealogist; and enjoyed building jigsaw puzzles in his spare time.  Achieving over 35 years of sobriety, Jim helped others through mentoring and sponsorship.

Jim is survived by his daughter, Amanda Sawicki, his longtime companion, Kim (Dong Im) Marsh, and two sisters, Doreen Sawicki and Diane (Richard) Sawicki-Adams.  He was predeceased by his parents Stanislaw and Helen, as well as two brothers, Stanley and John Sawicki.

Private services will be held at the convenience of the family. There are no calling hours. Arrangements have been entrusted to  Nunn and Harper Funeral Home, Inc., 418 N. George St., Rome,  NY 13440.
