Paul H. Yager, III, 68, of Rome, passed away unexpectedly at his home on Tuesday, October 8, 2024. He was born in Rome on December 14, 1955, a son of the late Paul H. Yager, Jr. and Audrey (McCormick) Yager. On April 28, 1984, he was united in marriage to Laurie Mathis.

 

Paul had a long and varied work history, dedicating himself to several industries throughout his career. At the time of his passing, he was a respected sales representative for Winzer Corporation, known for building meaningful relationships with clients and colleagues. He also worked in restaurant and retail management, as well as sales for other companies, excelling in leadership roles that emphasized his commitments to customer service and team development. His passion for connecting with people and delivering quality service left a lasting impact on everyone he worked with.

 

Paul was an avid reader of Stephen King and classic science fiction, sharing this passion along with his love for classic movies, fishing, and camping with his wife, Laurie. Together, they enjoyed countless hours of these favorite pastimes, making lasting memories along the way. He enjoyed relaxing with a cup of coffee, a cold beer, or a whiskey and cola, often while listening to his favorite classic rock music. Paul was handy with mechanical work, often fixing family vehicles, classic cars, lawnmowers, and anything that needed repairs around the house. His practical skills were appreciated by family and friends alike. He was a passionate animal lover, instilling in his children a love for all creatures great and small. Known for his quick wit and infectious sense of humor, he had a unique ability to bring laughter to every setting. His playful spirit taught his children the joy of finding light in even the toughest moments.

 

He is survived by Laurie (Mathis) Yager, the love of his life and devoted wife of 40 years and his children, Jennifer (Jeni) and Kyle Yager; his constant canine companions Sammy and Rambo, and feline friends Pumpkin, Smokey, Misty, and Trouble; mother-in-law Frances Mathis; stepmother Lucille Yager; sister-in-laws Debbie (Frank) Amuso, Mary (Joseph) Buchmann, Barbara (Todd) Manley, Elaine Coney; brother-in-laws Robert F.(Brenda) Mathis Jr. and James Mathis; sisters Betty Joyce Smith, Nancy (Mark) Loreto, Debbie (Cliff) Allen, Peggy Holz, Terry (Keith) Jarrett, Catherine Yager, Tammy Bravo, Janet (Mike) Meyer and Julie Barber-Knight; brothers David (Annette) Barber, and Robert Yager; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by father-in-law Robert F. Mathis Sr, father Paul H. Yager Jr, mother Audrey (McCormick) Yager, sister Shirley Ailes and countless beloved pets. He was also predeceased by his friends Pete Peterson and Roy Macumber, and survived by his friend David Sasenbury.

 

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, October 15th at 6:00 p.m. at Nunn and Harper Funeral Home, Inc., 418 N.
