Obituary of Myong O. Welsh
Myong Ok Kim Welsh, 81, of Rome, passed away peacefully at home with her family by her side on Sunday, October 6, 2024. She was born in Korea on June 1, 1943 and was united in marriage in Korea to Paul J. R. Welsh on February 5, 1975. Myong and Paul came to the U.S. on June 7, 1976 when Paul was stationed at Griffiss Air Force Base.
Myong was a strong, beautiful, and gentle soul with a truly pure, divine and altruistic nature. She was the embodiment of a beautiful hummingbird, always busy ensuring everyone in her life was taken care of and wanted nor needed for anything. She loved her family and sacrificed everything unselfishly for them. Everything she touched was filled with her magic. With the passing of her grandson Riley, Myong’s broken heart was healed by her granddaughter Calista, who became her entire heart, soul, and world. They share a special connection that transcends the realities of this world. She loved being outdoors and gardening, with an uncanny knack for finding four and five leaf clovers to give to her loved ones for luck. She always ensured her family, friends and her fur babies (Candy, Lucky, Whitey, Easter Egg, Spanky, Jake, Baby Mitten, Shu Shu, Memow, and Fluff) were well fed, cared for, and loved. She will always be remembered for her unique and exquisite cooking, specifically her eggrolls and bulgogi. Myong worked very hard for and was very proud of receiving her U.S. Citizenship on December 5, 1997. After which, she worked for the Rome Sentinel for over 20 years.
Myong is survived by her two children, Michele Welsh and Geoff & Lori Welsh; and her granddaughter, Calista (Geoff & Lori). She was predeceased by her grandson, Riley (Michele); and her husband Paul, who passed away May 10, 2019.
Private services will be held at the convenience of the family. There are no calling hours. Arrangements have been entrusted to Nunn and Harper Funeral Home, Inc., 418 N. George St., Rome NY 13440.
