Obituary of Stanley J Nobis
Stanley J. Nobis, 86, of Taberg, passed away and was reunited with the love of his life on Friday, October 4, 2024, at Rome Health Hospital surrounded by his loving family.
He was born on June 4, 1938, in Rome, the fourth child of Stanley P. and Mary Agnes (Bajda) Nobis. He enjoyed growing up on the family farm with his five siblings. He grew up proud of his polish heritage and his Catholic faith. He was a 1956 graduate of Camden High School.
On September 12, 1959, Stan was united in marriage to Carol A. Leszczyk in Transfiguration Church in Rome. A blessed union of fifty-eight years until her passing on August 5, 2018. Carol and Stan enjoyed taking car rides together; whether it was a short drive to see the leaves changing or a long drive to Amish country in PA, as long as they were in the car together driving, they were happy.
Stan proudly served his country as a member of the United States Marine Corps until his honorable discharge on July 17, 1962.
Stan was the owner and operator of B N K Trucking in Taberg for over fifty years. He never really retired as he would still drive truck and help out when they needed him to.
He was a member of St. Patrick’s Church in Taberg, attending daily mass until he was no longer able to.
He was an avid baseball fan. He enjoyed watching the game at any level but loved to cheer on the New York Mets. Stan was truly a family man in every sense. He was at his happiest spending time with his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Carol and Stan passed on the importance of being surround by the love of your family.
Surviving are two children, Christine (John) Plumley, and Anthony Nobis, all of Taberg; eight grandchildren, Casey (Jan) Okusko, Jacob Plumley, Megan (Justin) Pfeifer, Clair (Aaron) Pfeifer, Kelsey Nobis, Stanley Nobis, Kerry Nobis, and Tyler Nobis; nine great-grandchildren, Jameson, Josephine, and Jasper Okusko, Abel, Ruth, and Emerson Pfeifer, Ada and Ezra Pfeifer; and Kali Kosakowski; three sister-in-laws, Lois Nobis, Carol Nobis, and Nancy Nobis, all of Taberg; a brother-in-law, Walter (Suzanne) Leszczyk and many nieces and nephews. Stan was predeceased by four brothers, Michael Nobis on January 9, 2000, Alfred Nobis on December 20, 1993, John Nobis, on July 10, 2019, and Joseph Nobis on March 10, 1999; a sister, Jenny Knudsen on February 2, 2021; a brother-in-law, William Knudsen on April 22, 2007; and a sister-in-law, Irene Nobis, on January 1, 2007.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, October 9, 2024, beginning with a prayer service at 9:15 AM at Nunn and Harper Funeral Home, Inc., followed by his Mass of the Christian Burial at St. Patrick’s Church, Taberg, where the Rev. Francis Wapen will officiate. Interment with Military Honors will take place in St. Patrick’s Cemetery, Taberg. Family and friends are invited and may call on Tuesday from 5:00 to 7:00 PM at the funeral home, 9464 St. Rt. 13, Camden. Memorial contributions may be made in Stan’s memory to St. Patrick’s Church Memorial Fund, 9168 Main St., Taberg, NY 13471, or the Meeker-O’Rourke Post 1309 American Legion, 9275 Main St., Taberg, NY, 13471. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Ironside Funeral Home, Inc., 342 Main St., Oneida.
