Obituary of Arlo M Kitchen

Arlo M. Kitchen, 89 formerly from Camden & Westmoreland, passed away on 9/28/24 while residing at Siegenthaler Hospice Center in New Hartford, NY

He was born on December 5, 1934, in Vernon, NY.  Arlo was the Son of Mildred (Salm) & Martin Kitchen of Vernon, NY

On August 24, 1957, he married Roberta G. Capito at the Clinton Methodist Church, Clinton, NY.

Arlo graduated from Westmoreland High School in 1954. Participated in stunt team, 4-H, FFA and became an Empire Farmer.  Arlo worked on the family farm for 33 years on Deans Hwy.  Worked for Burtons Livestock-trucking and then worked at Empire Airlines eventually retiring from US Air in 1996.  Arlo had his own small business sharpening and repairing cow clippers, as well as a gentlemen’s farm with beef cattle in Camden.

Raised their family at home on South Street in Westmoreland, moved to River Rd. Camden in 1989 and moved to Riverside Drive in Camden 1999.  Arlo resided at Brookdale senior apts. in Clinton from 10/22-7/24 then moved to Seigenthaler Center in New Hartford in July 2024 under hospice care.

Arlo belonged to several senior clubs- Camden Senior Citizens, Williamstown Seniors, Taberg & Sylvan Beach Seniors as well as Bowled with Seniors in Camden. Also, a member of the Lairdsville Methodist Church.

During Arlo’s retirement years they were active in Bowling, square dancing, gardening, playing pitch, and most recently Arlo added in dominos and bingo at Brookdale. Enjoyed following Nelson Brothers Band & Fritz’s Polka band.  Arlo & Bobbie traveled extensively during retirement years. Arlo helped with gardens at each of their homes, and even started a raised garden at age 88 at senior apt in Brookdale- proud of his tomato and pea harvest.

Predeceased by spouse Roberta (Bobbie) Kitchen (Capito) on 3/3/22. Surviving are their 4 children: son, Robert M. Kitchen (Cathy) of Wichita, Kansas, daughter, Bambi (Bill) Norman of Taberg, daughter, Brenda (John) Thorna of Bouckville, and daughter, Heidi Kitchen of Oneida Castle. Also surviving are 3 grandchildren, 5 step grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren and 9 step great grandchildren.

Predeceased by his parents and sister Dolores H. Kitchen. Also surviving are 2 brothers Carlton (Phyllis) Kitchen, Roger Kitchen (Joan Kreisel), 1 sister Diana (Gene) Reinhardt, & a 1 half-brother, Carlton Lawson. 

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, October 5th at 12:00 p.m. at Nunn and Harper Funeral Home, Inc., 9464 State Rt. 13, Camden, NY 13316. Family and friends are invited to call at the funeral home on Saturday prior to the service from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.

The Family wishes to thank all of the staff at Siegenthaler Center for the care and compassion shown to Arlo during his stay.
