Obituary of William R. Tessien

William R. Tessien, 92, of Rome, passed away on Thursday, September 19, 2024, at Rome Health RHCF. Born in Chicago, IL, on September 22, 1931, he was a son of the late William H. and Grace (Haas) Tessien. He received a Bachelor’s of Arts Degree from the University of Illinois and on December 17, 1953, he enlisted in the United States Army, serving until being Honorably Discharged, December 16, 1955. On July 19, 1958, he was united in marriage to Carolyn Haynes, a blessed union of 62 years. She passed away May 1, 2021.

Bill was a data process manager at Revere Copper and Brass Co. for over 40 years. He enjoyed participating in the company bowling and golf leagues throughout the years. Bill enjoyed watching spectator sports. A longtime Chicago Cubs fan, Bill was thrilled when the Cubs won the World Series in 2016. Bill loved music, theatre and played the Accordion. Bill and Carolyn enjoyed square dancing in the Pairs and Squares Club of Rome for many years. He was an active member of St. Paul’s Church in Rome.

Bill is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Mary and Ronald House and Donna and Donald Van Dresar; a son and daughter-in-law, William T. and Cynthia Tessien; seven grandchildren, Andrea Sprague (Scott), Lisa Cast (Ian), Genya Tessien, William R. Tessien, Thomas Tessien, Dylan Van Dresar and Erin Van Dresar; two great-grandchildren, Forrest and Cooper Cast; and several nieces and nephews.  

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, September 30^th, at 12:00 p.m., at St. Paul’s Church, 1807 Bedford St., Rome NY 13440. Interment will take place in St. Mary’s Cemetery in Clinton, NY. Family and friends are invited to call at St. Paul’s Church prior to Mass on Monday from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.  In lieu of flowers, contributions in Bill’s memory may be made to the St. Paul’s Church Memorial Fund.
