Obituary of Luz C. Colon

Luz C. Colon, 73, of Rome, passed away on Tuesday, September 10, 2024 at Wynn Hospital in Utica. She was born in Ceiba, Puerto Rico, on February 10, 1951, a daughter of the late Esteban and Genoveva (Rivera) Gomez. On February 28, 1970, she was united in marriage to Angel L. Colon, Sr. He passed away January 24, 2022.

Luz worked at the Base Exchange on Griffiss Air Force Base for many years and was a parishioner of St. Paul’s Church. She and her husband played on several bowling leagues throughout Rome. She was an avid Bingo player and frequented many local churches and halls that offered a weekly game.

She is survived by two children, Angel L. Colon, Jr. (Susan) and Barbara Macri (William); one sister, Margarita Smith; five cherished grandchildren, Anthony and Andrew Colon, and Gianna, William, and Luciana Macri; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a son, Anthony Colon; one sister and three brothers.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 21st at Nunn and Harper Funeral Home, Inc., 418 N. George St., Rome NY 13440. Family and friends are invited to call at the funeral home prior to the service from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in Luz’s memory to the American Diabetes Association, PO Box 7023 Merrifield, VA 22116-7023.
