Obituary of James E. Boyd

James E. Boyd, long time resident of Rome NY, passed away September 1st, 2024.  He was 85 years old.  Son of the late Elizabeth Boyd, born on October 8th, 1938 in Washington D.C.

After graduating from Middletown HS 1956, he entered the US Air Force serving 23 years retiring in 1979 at the rank of Master Sargent.  His duty stations included Alaska, Texas, Turkey, Germany, Idaho, Philippines, New York, and one tour in Southeast Asia. 

Jim was a member of the American Legion, VFW, and 40&8, Voiture 544.  He served as La Aumonier Nationale from 2008-2010 and Chairman of Youth Sports 2011-2015, as a Veteran he truly enjoyed being part of and supporting the annual Special Olympics held at Penn State and one of his greatest honors was being given the privilege of laying a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier.

Survivors include his three sons, Keith Boyd of Plattsburgh NY, Ron Boyd and his wife, Vonnie of San Diego CA, and Richard Boyd of Taberg NY, grandchildren Gretchen, Tiffaney, Mallory, Richard, Tyler, Zachary, Christian, Colin, Gabrielle and three great granddaughters. 

He was preceded in death by his wife of 59 years Elmarie (Yellowhorse) Boyd, from Pine Ridge South Dakota.

Family and friends are invited to call on Tuesday, September 10th from 4-6:00 p.m. at Nunn and Harper Funeral Home, Inc., 418 N. George St., Rome NY 13440.  Services and burial will be held at Sampson Veterans Cemetery.
