Obituary of Margaret L. Smolenski

Margaret L. Smolenski, 100, of Camden, passed away Sunday, September 1, 2024, at Crouse Hospital in Syracuse. She was born on April 9, 1924, in Camden, NY, a daughter of the late Elmer and Eva (Howland) Rush.

Margaret was a graduate of Camden High School, Class of 1942. On February 6, 1945, she married Walter G. Smolenski in St. John’s Rectory in Camden. Her husband of 57 years died November 4, 2002. She was a member of St. John’s Church and its Altar and Rosary Society, Camden Seniors, and Camden Alumni Association.

Prior to marriage, Margaret was secretary to Stedman Tuthill, a local attorney, and she was a secretary at Camden Wire Co. She was a licensed Real Estate Agent and was associated with her husband in Smolenski Realty Corp. serving as Vice President-Secretary of the Corporation until his death.

She is survived by four daughters, Donna LaPrairie (Tom), Diane Riley (Peter), Carol Hayes (late Jovial Hayes), and Lori Heath (late Floyd Heath); ten grandchildren, Thomas and David LaPrairie, Heidi Hathaway, Kelli Harris, Nicholas Riley, Travis and Tyler Hayes, Jared, Nathan and Corey Heath; 23 great-grandchildren, Jacob, Carolelyn, Brody and Parker LaPrairie, Riley, Carson and Reese Hathaway, Ethan, Owen and Emily Harris, Quinn and Bryce Riley, Grace, Liam, Spencer, Tucker and Delaney Hayes, Emma, Ella, Jagger, Isla, Hailey and Saylor Heath; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a grandson, Mark LaPrairie; a brother, Harold Rush; and two sisters, Beatrice Ceterski and Arlene Smolenski.

Family and friends are invited to call at Nunn and Harper Funeral Home, Inc., 9464 State Rt. 13, Camden NY 13316, on Thursday, September 5^th from 4-7:00 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, September 7^th, at 10:00 a.m. at St. John’s Roman Catholic Church in Camden. Interment will take place in St. John’s Cemetery in Camden.
