Obituary of Susan M. Tarkowski
Susan M. Tarkowski, 74, of Rome, passed away surrounded by her family on Saturday, August 17, 2024, at Wynn Hospital in Utica. She was born in Rome on May 11, 1950, the daughter of the late Joseph Paul and Regina Gromelski Myslinski. She shared her childhood with her beloved brother Thomas, both sets of grandparents, and many, many aunts, uncles, and cousins in their predominately Polish neighborhood just south of the Polish Home.
She was a 1968 graduate of Rome Free Academy and went on to earn a degree from Central City Business Institute. On April 28, 1973, she was united in marriage to Raymond A. Tarkowski, with whom she shared 51 years of happiness.
Sue worked for the Rome Housing Authority and the Social Security Administration before becoming an independent real estate agent with Century 21. She retired to devote her life to raising her two cherished children, Alison and Andrew.
She was a member of Transfiguration Church and Teugega Country Club. She was formerly a member of Roman Runners and was proud to have run the Utica Boilermaker. She enjoyed having coffee with her friends and engaging in long telephone conversations with friends and family.
Surviving besides her loving husband, Raymond, are her daughter and son-in-law, Alison and Jim Underdown; her son and daughter-in-law, Andrew and Maggie (Welch) Tarkowski; four cherished grandchildren, Justin and Aidan Underdown, and Jackson and Sophia (her “Zosia”) Tarkowski, all whom lovingly called her “Grandma Sue;” two sisters-in laws, Betty Porter and Debbie Myslinski; two nephews, Thomas Myslinski Jr. (Amy Delahunt) and Timothy Myslinski (Rebecca Lafornara); four grandnephews, Thomas III, Michael, Brady, and Hayden Myslinski; two grandnieces, Emily and Natalie Myslinski; several special cousins; and her granddog, Joey. In addition to her mother and father, she was predeceased by her two brothers, Thomas Myslinski Sr. and infant Paul Myslinski, and her brother-in-law, Lee Porter.
The family would like to thank the nurses on Floor 3E of the Intensive Care Unit at Wynn Hospital for the special care they provided Sue.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, August 23rd at 1:30 PM at Transfiguration Church, 111 Ridge Street, Rome, NY 13440. There are no calling hours.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society in the names of Joseph Myslinski and Thomas Myslinski Sr.
